Centara Hotels & Resorts is expanding its presence in Phuket, with the signing of a new Centra property in the island’s Laguna resort complex.

The Thai hotel management company already has seven properties on the resort island, including one midscale Centra. But it will now expand even further with the launch of the Centra Laguna Resort Phuket, which is expected to open in August 2016.

“The Laguna resort complex is one of Thailand’s great tourism success stories, and we are delighted to be opening a hotel in this part of Phuket,” said Centara’s CEO, Thirayuth Chirathivat. “This gives us the opportunity to expand the range of our Centra brand in Phuket, where we at present have one other Centra property, at Patong, which is very successful.

“The new hotel will be our eighth property on the island, which indicates the strength of our confidence in Phuket as a world-class tourism destination,” he added.

Currently, Centara has properties in the Patong, Karon Beach, Kata Beach, and Mai Khao Beach areas of Phuket. The new Centra Laguna Resort Phuket will be a new-build project developed on more than 6,400m² of land in the Laguna complex, which is also home to Banyan Tree, Dusit, Best Western and Outrigger resorts.

Construction is expected to begin in July 2014 and upon completion the resort will have 150 rooms plus a swimming pool, restaurant, spa, gym, business corner and a kids’ area.

Phuket was the location for the global launch of the Centra brand, when the Centra Ashlee Hotel Patong opened in 2010. Since then, Centara has added two Centra hotels in Bangkok, one in Samui and one in Bali.
