Viking River Cruises is to be the headline sponsor of a new Chinese art exhibition, which will debut at the Victoria & Albert Museum in October.

The exhibition, which is called Masterpieces of Chinese Painting 700-1900, will have around 70 pieces and some of the earliest examples of Chinese art in existence.

The cruise line currently has at least one ship based in China, the Viking Emerald, which runs cruises down the Yangzte River from Beijing to Shanghai.

Wendy Atkin-Smith, managing director of Viking River Cruises UK said: “This is our second collaboration with the V&A and provides a once-in-a-lifetime glimpse into the wonders of Chinese culture and life. Our Yangtze cruise travels through many of the destinations depicted in this collection and we look forward to introducing the paintings to our guests past and present.”

Martin Roth, director of the V&A said: “It is an honour to present this once-in-a-lifetime experience of seeing the greatest examples of Chinese painting together and understanding how they were created. We are indebted to our numerous lenders around the world for allowing us a rare opportunity to present these magnificent masterpieces, a number of which are national treasures and have never before left Asia. We are also grateful for the support of Viking River Cruises, who are our official travel partner.”
