A passenger aboard a Qatar Airways flight heading to Dubai thought the “plane would hit the ground”, following a sharp drop during turbulence.
The aircraft was forced to return to Doha after being caught in a storm over Dubai, according to The Peninsula.
The Airbus 320-100/200 was almost at Dubai International Airport when it was forced to return.
“So sharp was the plunge that we thought for a moment that the plane would hit the ground, but luckily, the pilot lifted it back,” tweeted Mohamed Al Suwaidi once in Doha.
“We could hear screams of women and children on the plane and many men could be heard loudly recite the verses of the Holy Quran. There was fear and panic,” he added.
Al Suwaidi said the flight was turbulent for a further five minutes.
The carrier released a statement confirming that flight QR112 from Doha experienced severe turbulence on approach to the Dubai International Airport.
