Air France has taken delivery of its ninth Airbus A380.

The latest double-decker aircraft was handed over to the French national carrier at the Airbus factory in Hamburg last week, and comes equipped with 516 seats in four classes – nine in first class, 80 in business class, 38 in premium economy and 389 in economy.

“The arrival of this new aircraft illustrates our commitment to invest in a modern long-haul fleet, offering latest-generation products and services for the benefit of our customers,” Air France’s chairman & CEO Frédéric Gagey said at the delivery ceremony, which was attended by Air France employees.

“I wanted Air France staff working at the Paris-Charles de Gaulle hub to be able to take part in this event to emphasise that, in addition to our strategic investment, the involvement of all our staff is paramount to the success of (Air France’s recovery strategy) Transform 2015.”

The delivery of the ninth A380 follows the recent launch of Air France’s first ever A380 flights to Shanghai, which commenced on 2 September. This month, the airline will operate its A380s to six destinations – New York, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Johannesburg, Tokyo and Shanghai.

Air France has ordered a total of 12 A380s, with the next aircraft scheduled to be delivered in 2014.
