Visit California will continue to build its presence in the Indian market.
The tourism board participated in the annual Brand USA India mission for the fifth consecutive year. The India Mission 2013 promoted increased travel to California and the United States through focussed meetings of the visiting California delegates with Indian tour operators, hospitality professionals, travel agents and media.
“California is a premier destination in the United States and we are pleased to participate in Brand USA’s India Mission. The mission provides a positive platform to highlight the strengths of California’s tourism industry, to exchange ideas and re-establish our relationships with the Indian travel community,” said Caroline Beteta, Visit California’s president and CEO.
The tourism board has conducted various co-ops and outreach programs with the travel trade, consumers and media in India’s tier I and II cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. It has also introduced online training program ‘California Expert’ since September 2011.
The state had a projected 208,000 visitors from India in 2012, up 7% over 2011. According to Visit California’s spring 2013 forecast from Tourism Economics, the state should see an increase of 7% in 2013 and 38% growth between 2012 and 2016.
