The Maldives is the most popular luxury holiday destination, according to a new survey by Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH).
The location topped a consumer poll by the hotel chain, which also named Chanel as the favourite luxury brand and holidays as more desirable than cars, jewellery or clothing.
In the last five years 62% of the 800 respondents said they had increased their spend in travel, compared to 62% spending more on technology and 60% increasing spend in food and drink.
The global survey revealed only 10% of Brits look for a ‘home from home’ experience when they travel, indicating demand for authentic experiences when on holiday.
Five-star authentic experiences were deemed the most important elements to a luxury holiday, with personal service also a significant part.
Russian residents are upping their travel spend the most along with other emerging markets such as China and Latin America.
