Asia’s first Legoland Water Park has opened in Malaysia.
Located next to the existing Legoland Malaysia complex in the southern state of Johor, near Singapore, the new water park contains more than three million litres of water and 20 water-based rides. This makes it the largest Legoland Water Park in the world, and the only one which can be visited either on its own as a standalone attraction or in combination with the adjoining theme park.
Highlights include Build-A-Raft River, which allows children to customise their own raft using Lego soft bricks before floating down a lazy river, and the Joker Soaker – a play area where kids can spray each other with water cannons, and get soaked by a giant bucket that pours 350 gallons of water into the pool below.
“We are delighted to be opening the water park. It adds a whole new dimension to the Legoland Malaysia experience,” said Siegfried Boerst, general manager of Legoland Malaysia. “Legoland Malaysia Resort has more than 70 rides, slides, shows and attractions in total. It is a unique holiday destination for the entire family to enjoy.”
Following the launch of the water park, a new Legoland Hotel will open at the beginning of next year, completing the Legoland Malaysia complex. The resort is managed by Merlin Entertainments.
“It’s incredibly exciting to be celebrating the expansion of Legoland Malaysia and the opening of the water park is a major milestone in the transformation of Legoland into a resort,” said John Jakobsen, Merlin’s managing director for Legoland Parks.
“We are also very pleased to see that the opening of Legoland Malaysia has been a catalyst to encourage other high quality leisure businesses to the area, and share our partners’ exciting vision for southern Malaysia to become a hub for international entertainment,” he added.
There are currently six Legolands in the world, but the Malaysian park is the first and only one in Asia.
