A major wedding tourism event will be held next year, amid rising demand in the sector.

The Destination Wedding Planners Congress (DWPC) will take place in Athens from 24-25 April 2014, and organisers QnA International have released figures showing an increase in spending on international weddings.

According to a report by Ibis World, average spending on weddings is expected to grow 2.3% in the next five years, building on the current value of the sector, which is estimated at a staggering US$300 billion. And one of the biggest growth sectors is the “away wedding”, which has grown to a value of US$86bn.

The DWPC is an invitation-only event and will be attended by more than 100 high-end wedding planners from across the world, who will meet with global wedding venue suppliers in a series of pre-scheduled appointments.

“We at QnA International are delighted to produce an event for this niche industry which is poised for growth, while also providing a platform for other businesses to highlight their professional services and products. As a one of kind platform for this industry, we have received overwhelming response from wedding planners and suppliers from all over the world,” said Lisa Viegas, global partnerships manager at QnA International.
