Air Seychelles and Cathay Pacific have penned a new codeshare agreement that will see the two carriers cooperate on several routes, including those to Australia.
Under the terms of the deal, Air Seychelles will place its ‘HM’ code on Cathay’s flights from Hong Kong to Perth, Melbourne, Seoul and Johannesburg. In return, Cathay will place its ‘CX’ code on Air Seychelles’ services between Hong Kong and the Seychelles, and between the Seychelles and Abu Dhabi.
But the airlines said the agreement could be expanded in future to include “additional points in Asia and the Seychelles archipelago”.
“We are delighted to enter this deal with one of the world’s leading airlines. Our partnership with Cathay Pacific will go a long way to support the growing demand for flights between the Seychelles and China, as well as Asia generally. Both airlines are now poised to benefit from that demand,” said Air Seychelles’ CEO, Cramer Ball.
“This deal is a win-win for both airlines, and we look forward to strengthening our affiliation with our new friends at Cathay Pacific in the future,” he added.
The Cathay partnership marks Air Seychelles’ first codeshare agreement in Asia, and brings the airline’s total number of such partnerships to five, following existing arrangements with Etihad Airways, airberlin, Czech Airlines and South African Airways.
