Cebu Pacific Air (CEB) has unveiled a major expansion of its operations in Japan, with plans to launch services to two new destinations – Tokyo and Nagoya.

The Philippine low-cost carrier currently operates three weekly flights between Manila and Osaka. But from 30 March 2014 it will ramp up its Japanese operation with the launch of daily services between and Tokyo Narita Airport, and four weekly flights from the Philippine capital to Nagoya.

Prior to this on 20 December 2013, CEB will increase the frequency of its Osaka route to daily. This means that in total, by the beginning of the second quarter of 2014, CEB will have increased its Japanese operations by 500%, from three to 18 weekly flights.

“Travellers from Japan now have Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka as jump-off points when exploring the Philippines’ world-renowned beach and diving destinations. This is very much in line with the government’s tourism agenda, and the airline’s commitment to boost Philippine tourism,” said CEB’s vice president of marketing & distribution, Candice Iyog.

“With more flights to the Philippines, we believe Japan has the potential to be as big as South Korea when it comes to foreign tourist arrivals,” she added.

The new Tokyo flights will depart Manila daily at 0525, arriving in the Japanese capital at 1035. The return service leaves Tokyo at 1145, getting back into Manila at 1545.

Meanwhile the Nagoya service will leave the Philippine capital every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 1520, arriving in the Japanese city at 2025. The return leg will leave Nagoya at 2110, arriving back into Manila at 1210 the next day.

Both services will be operated using a single-aisle Airbus A320 aircraft.

CEB now operates to 22 international destinations, including the Northeast Asian hubs of Busan, Beijing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Seoul, Macau, Taipei and Xiamen.
