Bermuda Tourism has seen a 20% increase in UK tourists during the third quarter of this year compared to last year.
The tourism board’s work in the UK, which has included co-operative marketing; a roadshow; press trips; social media outreach and a MICE programme, saw UK air arrivals improve 2.4%.
The UK market now makes up 11% of Bermuda’s global visitor numbers, up 3% from last year.
Forward bookings are also showing the growth will continue with sales already up 16% compared to this time in 2012. Room nights are up 6% for 2014 already and tour operator room nights are up 13%.
A new tourism authority was also created this year to develop the destination’s offering including facilities, services and transportation.
“Our year-on-year visitor numbers are overwhelmingly positive and I am thrilled to be welcoming so may UK travellers to our island, whether their journey is for pleasure or business. These results will strengthen our tourism industry, creating new job opportunities within the sector, as well as highlight the fact that Bermuda is undeniably a top luxury destination,” said David Dodwell, chairman of the Bermuda Tourism Authority.
