Construction work has commenced on Shangri-La’s new hotel in Yangon.

The new-build Lakeside Shangri-La Yangon is expected to open in 2017, on the banks of Kandawgyi Lake. It will feature 350 rooms with views over the lake and the Shwedagon Pagoda, plus three restaurants, two bars, a health club, outdoor swimming pool and conference and banqueting space.

Guests will also have access to the 44.5-hectare Kandawgyi Nature Park and the Yangon Zoological Gardens.

“The steady increase of domestic and foreign investment in Myanmar’s economic capital makes Yangon an important commercial centre,” said Shangri-La’s president & CEO, Greg Dogan.

“Along with the city’s period buildings, traditional architecture and historic charms, it’s easy to see the multi-faceted attractions of Yangon. We look forward to further contributing to the city’s tourism and welcoming visitors with Shangri-La’s hospitality from the heart.”

The new hotel will be located close to the new Shangri-La Residences Yangon, and will operate alongside the existing 334-room Traders Hotel Yangon, which has been running since 1996.
