Business travellers take the greatest comfort from technology that allows them to feel closer to home, a new study has found.
A survey conducted by Pan Pacific found that most corporate travellers can’t leave home without electronic devices such as laptops, tablets and MP3 players. These practical items were favoured over personal keepsakes such as family photographs, with respondents indicating that these high-tech gadgets are reminders of home, or allow them to keep in touch with loved ones.
Local food items including ready-to-cook pastes came in at a close second.
“The survey findings highlight a key experience trend that we’re already seeing. Business travellers today are expecting more than just a room for the night. Travelling long-term has its challenges and these travellers are seeking for that one place where they can recuperate and retain a sense of home while trying to cope with operating outside their regular comfort zone,” said Andrew Donadel, general manager of the Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Beach Road in Singapore.
The survey also found that 90% of business travellers believe free Wi-Fi is the most important amenity a hotel can provide, allowing guests to make Skype calls or email family.
Also, more than 50% of travellers said they try to keep up with their regular fitness routine, with hotel fitness centres and swimming pools highly regarded among corporate guests.
The Pan Pacific study questioned 100 frequent business travellers across the Asia Pacific region.
