Marriott International Inc recently signed of an agreement with Société de Promotion Immobilière et Touristique Ennejma SA (SPITE) to operate the Sousse Marriott Hotel Nejma. The 220-room Marriott Hotels & Resorts branded property will open in 2017.
This new Marriott hotel marks the company’s aggressive growth plans for Africa. The signing will bring total number of announced properties joining Marriott International’s Middle East and Africa portfolio by 2018 to 46 – 26 of which will be in Africa. It is also the company’s second announced property in Tunisia following the164-all-suite Ritz-Carlton Tunis-Carthage which is due to open in late 2015.
Alex Kyriakidis, president and managing director of Marriott International Middle East and Africa said: “Africa is experiencing an unprecedented period of growth. 2013 has seen our business take a major stride towards the achievement of this goal. More than that, we are doing so in partnership with an homegrown hospitality brand. They are a partner who we started our first foray into the Tunisian market,”
The Nejma landmark is an upscale retail and residential mixed-use project that will be built city central, granting the upcoming Sousse Marriott Hotel Nejma a seafront location.
“Sousse is a major tourist destination in Tunisia and it is also an important industrial hub in the country,” added Kyriakides.
The hotel will have 220 rooms and suites, four restaurant outlets (including a casual restaurant and a specialty restaurant); and a large lobby lounge. Recreational facilities will include a health club, Spa and pool. The hotel will also offer enough meeting space with a ballroom, individual meeting rooms and a boardroom.
