Tourism Ireland hopes its new Wild Atlantic Way coastal path will become the European equivalent to Australia’s Great Ocean Road and the Garden Route in South Africa when it launches next year. The new coastal path on the west coast of Ireland stretches more than 2, 500 kilometres and has received EUR8 million funding for its launch in 2014.
Thomas Redmond, Tourism Ireland’s representative in the Middle East, said: “We hope the Wild Atlantic Way will appeal to GCC nationals. We are working very closely with travel agents and operators in the region and GCC customers can soon expect to see some great Wild Atlantic Way offers and itineraries available early next year.“
Tourism statistics for Ireland have been up with visitor numbers estimated to have increased 7.2% to touch eight million. Spending has also been on the rise by 6% up to GBP3.64 billion.
