Emirates has received an early Christmas present, with the delivery of two more Airbus A380 aircraft.
The airline’s 43rd and 44th A380s were handed over to Emirates in a double delivery ceremony at Airbus’ factory in Hamburg last week.
The new double-decker jets both come fitted with 517 seats in a three-class configuration, including 14 seats in first class, 76 in business class and 427 in economy. They have both already been put into service on routes to Mauritius and Munich.
“Our customers love the A380,” said Tim Clark, president of Emirates. “It is a beautiful aircraft which we have packed full of the best in-flight comforts and products. From an operator standpoint, the A380 is still one of the most fuel-efficient aircraft per seat. It offers us some flexibility in range and also helps us to meet demand at slot-constrained airports.”
Emirates operates the world’s largest fleet of A380s, with one in three aircraft operating in the world today belonging to the Dubai-based carrier. In 2013, Emirates took delivery of 13 new A380s and it expects to receive another 13 in 2014. The airline still has outstanding orders for 96 more A380s, 71 of which are expected to be delivered over the next five years.
Following the Mauritius and Munich services, the next new A380 route to be launched by Emirates will be Dubai-Zurich, with flights commencing in January 2014.
Meanwhile, Emirates has confirmed that its new daily service to Taipei will commence in the first quarter of next year. The airline’s first ever flight to Taiwan will launch on 10 February 2014, operating every day using a three-class, 354-seat Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
Taipei is one of three new routes being launched by Emirates in the first quarter of 2014, along with Kiev and Boston.
