Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has unveiled plans to launch its first hotel in Malaysia.
The luxury hotel company has penned a management contract with Cititower Sdn Bhd for the Fairmont Kuala Lumpur – a new-build hotel set to open its doors in 2017.
The 62-storey hotel will be located in the central KLCC area of the Malaysian capital, which is also home to the Petronas Twin Towers. It will form part of a new mixed-used development including the hotel and a high-rise office tower, connected to each other via the existing six-storey Suria KLCC shopping complex.
“Fairmont Kuala Lumpur is an important milestone for both our brand and FHRI,” said Jennifer Fox, president of Fairmont Raffles Hotels International (FHRI).
“It’s a dynamic new destination for Fairmont and is our company’s first hotel in Malaysia, an influential and growing market that we feel is of strategic importance. We’re very excited to be entering Kuala Lumpur, a key gateway city in the region, and remain focused on expanding the Fairmont brand in Southeast Asia and other leading destinations globally,” she added.
The new property will offer 750 rooms, six F&B outlets, a swimming pool, health club, spa and 2,787m² of conference and banqueting space.
The project is being designed by Pelli Clarke Architects, which worked on the original Petronas Twin Towers project and the International Financial Centre (IFC) in Hong Kong.
Fairmont KL becomes the latest hotel signed by Fairmont, as it expands its reach across Asia Pacific. Other new projects are set to open in Chengdu, Jakarta, Bali, Taiyuan, Changsha and Hangzhou over the next three years, doubling the brand’s regional portfolio.
