Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has established a Global Ports Committee to directly engage with cruise ports around the world.

Regional committees have also been developed in the Americas, Australasia and Asia region in addition to the already-established committee in Europe.

Chaired by Giora Israel from Carnival Corporation, the global team also includes Tom Spina from Norwegian Cruise Line, Gianluca Suprani of MSC Cruises and John Tercek of Royal Caribbean Cruises.

It will allow ports across the world to discuss and integrate more with the cruise lines themselves and work to boost cruise holidays.

CLIA has also redesigned its executive partner programme and announced Bo Larsen as director of port engagement and business development.

Larsen joins from Cruise Baltic where he oversaw significant growth of cruise in the region.

He joins CLIA on 1 March and will have responsibility for communication for the regional committee in Europe and partner business development in Northern Europe.

“I am honoured to serve as chair of the Global Ports Committee, which will play an integral role in strengthening the relationships between cruise lines and port communities,” said Israel.  “Both cruise lines and destinations can benefit significantly by providing excellent service to passengers who embark and disembark cruise ships — and establishing this committee together with my colleagues from the other cruise companies will further our mutual goals of maximising the positive impact of cruise tourism.”
