Qingdao Airlines will commence operations in March 2014, it has been confirmed.
According to a recent statement on the website of Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), the new Chinese airline will receive its Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) next month, allowing it to commence commercial operations.
Based at Liuting International Airport in Qingdao, the port city in northeast China’s Shandong province, Qingdao Airlines will initially operate three Airbus A320 aircraft on domestic routes.
The carrier will also take two Bombardier CRJ700 jets from Shandong Airlines, which owns a 20% stake in the new carrier.
In the long-term however, Qingdao Airlines plans to expand to a fleet of at least 50 aircraft by 2020. Last September it placed an order with Airbus for 23 A320s, the first of which will be delivered in 2016.
