Cathay Pacific Airways has expanded its operations in the US, with a new scheduled service to Newark Liberty International Airport.

The inaugural flight took off for the first time this week, marking the start of a new daily direct service from Hong Kong. The Newark flights will complement Cathay Pacific’s existing four daily services to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

The Newark service is operated using a new, three-class Boeing 777-300ER aircraft featuring business, premium economy and economy class cabins.

“The introduction of Cathay Pacific’s Newark to Hong Kong service demonstrates our commitment to the New York metropolitan area, which has been instrumental in the development of our North American operations,” said Cathay Pacific’s senior vice president for the Americas, Tom Owen.

“We are dedicated to offering even more choice and flexibility for tri-state residents, and we constantly raise the bar on our passengers’ experience through impeccable service, superior in-flight amenities and products.”

The new flights will operate on a split schedule, departing Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) at either 1820 or 2100. The return flights will leave Newark at 0110 or 0600.

Newark becomes Cathay Pacific’s fifth gateway in the US, following Chicago, Los Angeles, New York JFK and San Francisco. It also flies to Vancouver and Toronto.
