Marriott Hotels & Resorts has opened its first hotel in Japan’s second largest city, Osaka.

The Osaka Marriott Miyako Hotel, which has been developed in partnership with Miyako Hotels & Resorts, is set in ‘Abeno Harukas’ – a brand new 300-metre, 60-storey development. The hotel’s 360 rooms, executive lounge and ZK restaurant are located on the top floors of the building, offering views across the Kansai region.

“Marriott International’s model for growth around the world is to work with local partners who have the right local expertise, knowledge and skills, and who share our own values and culture. In Miyako Hotels & Resorts we have found an excellent partner to work with here in Japan and we are excited to open the first Marriott Hotels property in this very important city,” said Simon Cooper, Marriott’s president & managing director for Asia Pacific.

Facilities at the new hotel will include a 19th floor lobby, including a lounge and bar, plus two restaurants: Cooka, an open kitchen buffet restaurant and ZK, which takes up the entire 57th floor and has floor-to-ceiling windows. Catering for the corporate market, the Osaka Marriott also features seven meeting rooms.

Located in front of Osaka Abenobashi Station, 30 minutes from Kansai International Airport, the Osaka Marriott Miyako Hotel becomes Marriott International’s 14th hotel in Japan and second in Osaka following the city’s existing Ritz-Carlton.

The opening also comes just three months after the company launched its new flagship Marriott-branded property in Tokyo.
