Young business travellers favouring first class rail

Young business travellers are more likely to travel in first class on trains compared to other age groups, the GTMC has found.
A new survey by the association found 28% of 18 to 29 year-olds typically travel in first class when travelling on trains for work, compared to 16% of all respondents.
In addition 17% of young people think any extra capacity should prioritise first class to standard seats.
“Whilst making rail journeys more productive is something that business travellers of all ages agree on, the differences between business travellers under 30, and those older, are important considerations for the rail industry. In a couple of years the younger travellers surveyed will be the mainstay of business travellers and it is essential that services evolve to meet their different needs,” said Paul Wait, chief executive of GTMC.
Furthermore, a third of young people suggested they would support ticket fare increases if it meant less overcrowding and 80% want to see more bike storage on trains.
