US travel company Travel Leaders Group has announced the opening of a new London headquarters as the hub for its European growth.

The Minnesota-based firm has taken up a new office in Covent Garden which will also incorporate Protravel International, Tzell Travel Group, Cruise Holidays, Vacation.com and Travel Leaders as well as its other brands.

The group hit annual sales of more than GBP12 billion last year and is said to account for a third of all US-based travel agency operations.

Advantage Travel Partnership members Protravel and Tzell UK, which employ 60 travel advisors and has a combined turnover of GBP40 million, will now operate under Travel Leaders UK.

Protravel’s Tina Rose will lead the UK operation as managing director with Barry Whittaker as executive director of business development and acquisitions. They will both report to Travel Leaders Group CEO Barry Liben.

“Bringing Protravel and Tzell together in new London headquarters is the first step on an aggressive expansion plan in the UK and Europe,” said Liben. “These businesses complement each other very well, which is good news for our clients, agents and suppliers. The objective is to replicate the success of our US business on this side of the Atlantic.”

Liben is expecting more organic growth and acquisitions in the UK and Europe and is “working to attract agents and agencies to our business by demonstrating why we’ve been able to grow so dramatically when other agency groups have not”.
