English Tourism Week started on Saturday with events up and down the country planned to raise the tourism profile.
Lady Penelope Cobham, chairman of VisitEngland launched the promotional week at the Tourism Society’s dinner last week with Tourism Minister Helen Grant MP in attendance, while a Tourism Alliance parliamentary reception takes place tomorrow (31 March) with a speech from Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Maria Miller MP.
Several consumer events will also be taking place across the country with promotions and competitions.
“Tourism is one of the few sectors active in every part of the country, supporting 2.6 million jobs and worth £106bn a year to England. English Tourism Week has become a firm favourite on the calendar; it’s an opportunity to raise the profile of the sector by demonstrating the importance of tourism to the economy, and the many opportunities for growth,” said VisitEngland’s chief executive James Berresford.
