Solomon Airlines has resumed all domestic and international operations following the devastating floods that struck the Solomon Islands over the weekend.
Floodwater and debris had blocked the runway at Honiara International Airport, but this has now been cleared and safety checks conducted, allowing flights to resume.
In addition, Solomon Airlines said it would use its Airbus A320 aircraft to transport emergency equipment, food and other supplies to communities affected by the natural disaster.
“This devastating event was obviously something completely out of our control,” said the national carrier’s CEO, Captain Ron Sumsum.
“What is in our control is our ability to show great resilience in these moments of crisis and that is exactly what the entire Solomon Airlines team, and by extension, the people of the Solomon Islands, are doing.”
Twenty-three people died and approximately 9,000 were left homeless following the flash floods that struck the Solomon Islands over the weekend.
