Philippine Airlines to fly new 777 to US

Philippine Airlines (PAL) is planning to deploy its newest long-haul aircraft to the US, following the decision to ease restrictions on the carrier.
The Philippines’ aviation safety rating in the US was upgraded to Category 1 last week, allowing PAL to add more routes, flights and new aircraft on its US routes.
As a result, PAL has now announced plans to deploy its new Boeing 777-300ER on the routes from Manila to Los Angeles and San Francisco. The two-class aircraft features 370 seats, including 42 flat-bed seats in business class.
“[PAL] welcomes the return of the country’s aviation rating to Category 1,” said the national carrier’s president & chief operating officer, Ramon Ang. “This latest development allows us to deploy our modern and fuel-efficient Boeing 777-300ER fleet to the US, and enables us to explore new destination opportunities in one of the Philippines’ largest passenger markets,” he added.
PAL currently operates 26 weekly flights to the US, including services to LA, San Francisco, Honolulu and Guam.
The two Californian routes will now be upgraded from the older B747-400 to the new B777, while Honolulu and Guam will continue to be operated using Airbus A330s and A320s respectively.
