Qatar Airways will launch its first Airbus A380 on 17 June 2014, on the route from Doha to London Heathrow Airport.
The airline will take delivery of its first three double-decker aircraft this summer and will deploy the first of these on the QR003/QR004 services between Heathrow and Doha’s new hub, Hamad International Airport.
Qatar Airways has 13 A380s on order, which are expected to be configured in a three-class layout with 517 seats – eight in first class, 52 in business class an 457 in economy. Both the first and business class seats will recline to form fully flat beds.
“It is a significant moment in our airline’s history to welcome these aircraft into our rapidly expanding fleet,” said Qatar Airways’ CEO, Akbar Al Baker.
“Operating on the Doha to London Heathrow route, these aircraft… will set a new level of comfort for our passengers, who will also benefit from a smooth and pleasant passenger experience at the world’s newest airport, Hamad International Airport, the soon to be opened new home of Qatar Airways.”
The arrival of the A380s forms part of Qatar Airways’ major fleet expansion programme. The airline has also ordered 80 A350s, plus new Boeing 777-300ERs and B787 Dreamliners.
