Jet2.com has set its sights on growing passenger numbers from Manchester as one of four new route launches got underway on Friday (2 May.

The airline’s head of planning David Neill told Travel Daily the response to new services from the north England airport to Vienna, Jersey, Bergerac and Fuerteventura have been ‘really positive’.

The Vienna route had its inaugural flight on Friday with 8,000 seats already sold. It will now run three times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday with a UK lunchtime departure.

Jet2 will operate 43 routes from the airport this year with a mixture of city and beach destinations, along with packages through sister brand Jet2holidays, and is hoping for an increase in passenger numbers.

“Manchester is our largest departure point and we see potential to grow even further,” Neill said. “We currently fly 1.5 million people from Manchester a year but with this good capacity growth and the business increasing we expect this to get higher next year.”

Neill said the success of its routes has been down to departure times to provide the most convenience for passengers.
