A curfew placed on Thailand has been lifted in the beach resorts of Pattaya, Koh Samui and Phuket.

The regulation was lifted from the three resorts last night to ease tourism concerns although it still in place in other resorts and cities across the country.

Tourists and locals are required to stay indoors between midnight and 4am in the affected areas as the military looks to calm on-going protests. The curfew was initially in place between 10pm and 5am but was relaxed last week.

According to the Bangkok Post the president of the Tourism Promotion Association Wannee Thaipanich wrote to the local army asking the curfew to be relaxed in Koh Phangan to allow a full moon party to continue all night on 12 June, but the resort is still currently under the restriction.

The curfew does not apply to those travelling to and from airports.

Some international media outlets are still off air in the country as the army looks to calm demonstrations which are still taking place in Bangkok and other cities.

The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said: “As the situation is evolving you should monitor local news and social media for developments. It is illegal to criticise the coup and you should be wary of making political statements in public. Some anti-coup demonstrations are taking place in Bangkok and some other cities. These could become violent.”

Hotel comparison website trivago said it has seen a 26% drop in searches for Thailand since the military takeover on 22 May.

Room rates have dropped from an average of GBP59 in June last year to GBP50 this month with some costs in Pattaya said to be down to GBP41 a night.

Interest from the UK specifically fell 24% and instead pushed traffic to Cambodia, Vietnam and Indonesia.
