Etihad Airways has unveiled plans to fly direct between Abu Dhabi and Brisbane.

The airline currently operates daily flights between the two cities via Singapore, but from 1 June 2015 the route will be served non-stop.
The flights will be operated by Etihad’s new 235-room Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, featuring the airline brand new cabin products, including ‘first suites’ and ‘business studios’.

The new daily service will replace the current Abu Dhabi-Singapore-Brisbane route, becoming the first ever daily direct service between Brisbane and Abu Dhabi.

“Since we started services between Brisbane and Abu Dhabi in 2007, the route has gone from strength to strength and we have now carried more than 520,000 passengers on the route,” said Etihad’s president & CEO, James Hogan.

“The introduction of the enables us to build on the route’s robust performance by offering our strongest customer proposition yet – an enhanced onboard experience, shorter travel times, and the convenience of one-stop connectivity to popular destinations in the Middle East, Africa and Europe.

“Etihad Airways’ first Boeing 787 will enter the fleet in December 2014 and Queenslanders will be among the first in the world to experience the aircraft’s next generation product and service offering,” he added.

Etihad will continue to codeshare with Virgin Australia on the new route, offering connections to a series of Australian domestic destinations, including the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and Hamilton Island.

Etihad currently offers 28 weekly flights between Australia and Abu Dhabi, but this will increase to 35 per week from 15 July with start of services between Abu Dhabi and Perth.
