Norwegian Cruise Line has ordered an additional two new Breakaway-Plus cruise ships.
The new ships will be built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany that will delivered in the second quarter of 2018 and the fourth quarter of 2019.
Each ship will have 4, 200 passenger berths, with the deal worth EUR1.6 billion under contract price.
“Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway have proven themselves as industry game-changers and are extremely popular with our guests,” said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line’s chief executive officer. “It was only natural that we build on their success with this new ship order that further solidifies our long-term growth strategy.”
Norwegian Breakaway was the first Breakaway ship to launch in May 2013 followed by Norwegian Getaway in February 2014, both of which featured multiple dining venues, relaxed dress codes and various accommodation options.
The ships will be the fifth and sixth Breakaway-Plus ships with Norwegian Escape and Norwegian Bliss also under construction.
“We are thrilled that Norwegian Cruise Line has the continued confidence in MEYER WERFT to expand their fleet,” said Bernard Meyer, managing partner of Meyer Werft. “We are very proud of our longstanding relationship with Norwegian.”
