Emirates has commenced flights to Chicago – its ninth destination in the US.
The inaugural flight touched down at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport this week to mark the start of a new daily direct service to and from Dubai.
The outbound service will operate as flight EK235, departing Dubai International Airport at 0945 and arriving in Chicago at 1525. The return flight, EK236, will then leave the ‘Windy City’ at 2035 and arrive back in Dubai at 1910 the next day.
“This connection will deepen the ties between two of the world’s busiest airports in terms of commercial travel, with a combined traffic flow approximately 133 million passengers in 2013,” said Rosemarie S. Andolino, commissioner of the Chicago Department of Aviation.
“We look forward to building on O’Hare’s successful relationship with Emirates and know that many international travelers will take advantage of this new route.”
The 14-hour, 40-minute flights will be operated using a three-class Boeing 777-200LR aircraft, with eight private first class suites, 42 flat-bed seats in business class and 216 seats in economy.
Emirates first launched passenger services to the US in 2004, with the start of flights to New York. Since then it has added flights to Boston, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle, and now Chicago.
The airline will also add more capacity on its Dallas, San Francisco and Houston routes later this year, with the deployment of the double-decker Airbus A380 aircraft.
