Air traffic movement in the UAE’s airspace reached 62,802 last month, reported the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre. The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA ), said that air traffic movements have witnessed a minor decline of 0.6% in July, compared with the same period last year. The GCAA said the drop was due to closure of two runways in Dubai International Airport, for 80 days. The authority’s monthly report also indicated a total of 459,389 air traffic movements since the beginning of the year, which represents an overall increase of 2.3% compared to the same period of the last year.
Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, GCAA director general, said that despite decline in traffic over the past three months that were due to runway renovations in Dubai Airport, there has been an overall increase in air traffic movements this year.
“This is a clear indication of increasing demand for aviation services and increased number of passengers travelling from and to UAE. We expect this growth to surge higher over the coming months,” said Al Suwaidi.
GCAA’s July report showed that Dubai had the highest traffic movements with 24,654, and 117,47 over flights were registered, while Abu Dhabi experienced 118,18 air traffic movements.
