Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has appointed The Cruise Line to manage its sales and marketing in the UK.
The Cruise Line has set up a dedicated free phone number for the German-based cruise line and will focus on marketing the Europa 2 ship.
Hapag-Lloyd’s UK representative Mike Flanagan will remain the direct contact with UK and Ireland travel agents and operators, although the trade will also be able to get help through The Cruise Line.
Michael Steffl, international sales manager at Hapag-Lloyd said: “As part of our strategy, we have identified the United Kingdom and Ireland as a priority, international target market. To date The Cruise Line has been at the forefront of growing our UK business and are well set-up to represent emerging products and new brands, with a deep understanding of sales and marketing strategy, complemented by a highly knowledgeable sales and marketing department. We believe our respective businesses are well aligned to help us secure the future growth we anticipate over the coming years.”
Europa 2 and its expedition ship Hanseatic are both aimed at international markets, while its other two ships are for the German market. Earlier this year Hapag-Lloyd said it will focus on bringing more non-German passengers to its ships.
Jos Dewing, managing director of The Cruise Line said: “We have seen incredible sales for [Europa 2] 2014 departures, having quickly realised the ship’s potential after its launch and we intend to more than double these figures for 2015. By representing the operator as ‘Hapag-Lloyd Cruises UK’ we are able to keep the customer journey within a single UK office, from an initial enquiry for the product, through to welcoming the client home.”
