AirAsia X gets green-light for Indonesia launch

AirAsia X will launch in Indonesia, after the new unit received its Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) from the country’s aviation authorities.
Indonesia AirAsia Extra, as the new carrier will be known, has been given the green light to proceed with its launch plans, with the AOC now enabling the airline to apply for international routes. The official launch date has not yet been confirmed.
The Indonesian venture will be AirAsia X’s third regional unit, following the well-established AirAsia X in Malaysia and the new Thai AirAsia X, which commenced operations in Bangkok earlier this year.
These airlines offer flights in excess of four hours using a fleet of wide-body Airbus A330-300 aircraft. Unlike the AirAsia’s short-haul airlines, AirAsia X offers both economy and business classes, including flat-beds in the premium cabins.
Indonesia AirAsia Extra is likely to serve destinations in Australia and Northeast Asia, although the Middle East and India could also be on the carrier’s radar.
