Qatar Airways will boost its services to Thailand next month with the introduction of direct flights to Phuket.
Commencing on 26 October 2014, the airline will operate daily direct flights to the Thai resort island. Services will depart Doha every day at 0700, arriving in Phuket at 1740 the same day. The schedule of the return flights however, will be split, with services departing Phuket International Airport at 1930 every Monday, Wednesday and Sunday, and 1905 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Qatar Airways currently serves Phuket daily via Kuala Lumpur, so from the start of the direct flights, the KL-Phuket link will be discontinued.
“The start of non-stop services from Doha to Phuket offers travellers from around the world access to the popular tourist destination in a reduced time, from across our expanding global network,” said Qatar Airways’ group CEO, Akbar Al Baker.
“With the upcoming winter holidays, this is a great opportunity for travellers from the Middle East, Europe, Africa and the Americas to plan their break with a beach vacation to Phuket. Visitor numbers to Phuket are on the rise and Qatar Airways will look to take advantage of the non-stop connections to the city in the days to come,” he added.
All the Doha-Phuket flights to Phuket will be operated using a twin-aisle Airbus A330 aircraft with 24 seats in business class and 236 in economy.
Qatar Airways started operating to Thailand more than 14 years ago and now offers daily flights to Phuket and three daily services to Bangkok. And the airline will further boost its Bangkok route from 16 December 2014, with the launch of a fourth daily flight to the Thai capital.
The new direct service to Phuket is expected to be especially popular with travellers from the UK, Russia, Germany, France and Italy, who often travel to Phuket on holiday.
“A dedicated non-stop Phuket service will help meet the growing demand the airline has for this particular destination. Moreover, Europe is an extremely popular destination for a number of Thailand-based locals as well. We are therefore very pleased to be able to continue to offer more options to those looking to travel with us,” added Al Baker.
