The Centara Grand Island Resort & Spa in the Maldives has received ‘Green Fins’ certification, to confirm that its diving operations are managed in a sustainable manner.
To achieve the certificate, the resort participated in training on environmentally friendly diving and snorkelling, and was then assessed to see whether it operates within the Green Fins Code of Conduct.
“Environmental protection has always been a main policy of Centara in Maldives,” said Voytek Klasicki, area manager for Centara in the Maldives.
“We have rigorously applied our conservation policies to all three properties. We are therefore delighted to be receiving the Green Fins certification, and special congratulations go to the dive specialists at our PADI dive centre on the island,” he added.
To attract divers, the Centara Grand Island Resort has its own reef and even a shipwreck. It has also embarked on a programme to grow new coral.
Green Fins was jointly created by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Reef-World Foundation.
