Russia’s S7 Airlines has penned a new codeshare agreement that will allow its passengers to connect to Southeast Asia.
A new deal with its oneworld alliance partner, Qatar Airways, will see S7 place its flight code on Qatar Airways’ services from Moscow to Doha, and then onwards to Phuket and Phnom Penh.
In return, Qatar Airways will be able to place its code on S7’s services from Moscow to 10 destinations in Russia, plus Finland’s capital Helsinki.
“Alliances and codeshares are playing an increasingly important role in the airline industry today – and that will continue long into the future,” said Qatar Airways’ group CEO, Akbar Al Baker.
“Becoming a member of oneworld last October was one of the most significant landmarks in Qatar Airways’ history. It has strengthened our competitive offering and the advent of these new codeshare routes with S7 Airlines, a oneworld member airline, will expand travel options even further within our global alliance network.”
The new codeshare arrangement offer simpler connections for passengers, with baggage being checked through to the final destination. Frequent flyers will also be able to earn and redeem miles on all sectors.
The new codeshare flights into effect on 8 October 2014.
