Kunming Airlines has placed an order for 10 Boeing 737 aircraft.
The airline, which is based in southwest China’s Yunnan province, has agreed to purchase four B737-700s and six new B737 MAX aircraft worth US897 million at current list prices.
“This commitment is a major step in our growth strategy,” said Xuan Yuen, CEO of Kunming Airlines. “The 737 is the backbone of our fleet and will continue to be in the future. These airplanes will further expand and improve our route network, contributing to our vision to build Yunnan’s gateway airport to be the forefront of the province’s economic development.”
Capable of carrying up to 128 passengers in a two-class configuration, the B737-700 is the smallest version of Boeing’s single-aisle series.
The B737 MAX meanwhile, is the new fuel-efficient version of the aircraft, which is due to enter service in 2017.
Based at Kunming’s Changshui International Airport, Kunming Airlines launched operations in 2009 and now serves more than 25 cities across China with a fleet of 10 B737-700s and five B737-800s.
