Recent statistics state that Iranian airports handled 32 million passengers during 21 March -21 November 2014, as per a report in Iran Daily.
Mohammad Reza Abdolrahimi, deputy head of Iranian Airports Holding Company, mentioned a 12% growth compared with figures of last year, which was 28.57 million. It was further noted that 24.4 m of the figure pertained to domestic flights, up by eight percent year-on-year. Last year’s figure amounted to 22.59 m.
“In this period, 7.54 m passengers checked in and out of airports using international flights, showing a 22% increase compared to 2013, which was 6.18 m,” he said.
The main reasons cited were Iran’s international transactions and rising interest of foreign tourists in visiting the country. Abdolrahimi put number of foreign aircraft crossing Iran’s airspace during the same period at 164,057, which is up by 43% as compared to 2013 at 114,725.
