Nepal Airlines will continue to expand its fleet next year, with the addition of two new Airbus jets.
In a statement, state-run Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) said that the two new single-aisle A320 aircraft would be delivered in February and April 2015. Both will come equipped with Airbus’ fuel-saving wing-tips, known as ‘Sharklets’.
The arrivals follow a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Airbus in April 2013.
Nepal Airlines currently operates a fleet of two Boeing 757s, two Twin Otters, one MA-60 and one Harbin Y-12 aircraft. The Chinese-made MA-60 and Y-12 are both almost brand new, having been delivered to NAC earlier in 2014.
Prior to these arrivals, Nepal Airlines’ flight operations had been seriously affected by a lack of aircraft. In 2013 and 2014 the airline lost two Twin Otter aircraft in accidents.
