Princess Cruises has confirmed the latest phase of its Australian expansion, with the deployment of the 3,082-passenger Emerald Princess cruise ship Down Under.
The 113,000-tonne liner will be based in Sydney from November 2016 to April 2017, taking Princess’ Australasian capacity to a record 11,800 berths across five ships during the season.
Launched in 2007, Emerald Princess is one of Princess’ newest and largest ships, offering more than 1,500 guest cabins plus 13 restaurants, eight lounges, two nightclubs, four swimming pools, a spa and outdoor cinema.
It will undertake a series of sailings from Sydney to destinations in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, details of which will be unveiled in March this year.
“Since Princess first based a ship here for the summer in 2002 we have been embraced by Australians who love our exciting itineraries and destinations as well as the quality cruise experience we provide, so we’re thrilled to be expanding further,” said Princess’ vice president for Australia & New Zealand, Stuart Allison.
“With three ships cruising our waters full time and two megaliners visiting for the summer, the 2016 season will offer more exciting options for Australian and New Zealand cruisers.”
While the Emerald Princess will cruise from Sydney in 2016-17, the four other Princess ships will continue to offer programmes from Melbourne, Brisbane, Fremantle and Sydney.
