A group of 25 passengers, including a tour guide, have been detained by police in China after opening an aircraft door while the plane was taxiing to the runway.
The Shanghai Daily reports that the tour guide, along with two of the passengers, opened the door after complaining about a lack of ventilation. The China Eastern Airlines flight was preparing to depart Kunming‘s Changshui International Airport for a flight to Beijing when the incident occurred.
The pilot aborted take-off and returned to the terminal, where the tour group was held for questioning.
The newspaper reported that prior to the incident passengers had become angry about a delay to the flight. Some had also complained of a lack of air, and the tour guide then allegedly encouraged members of his group to open the emergency exits.
And one of the passengers has accused the airline of ignoring their suffering.
“The captain shouted at passengers and took no care of some passengers who had shown symptoms of breathlessness,” the unnamed passenger was reported saying in an online post.
China Eastern denied this however, saying it had “no quarrels with any passenger”.
This marks the latest in a series of incidents involving unruly or inexperienced Chinese passengers. Last month, a first-time flyer decided to open the door of a Xiamen Airlines flight prior to take off, while an AirAsia flight from Thailand to China was forced to return to Bangkok after an angry passenger threw hot water at a flight attendant.
