Attacks put little impact on Paris tourism

No significant bookings to Paris have been cancelled as a result of attacks in the city last week, ETOA has reported.
The association said long-haul markets had not been as sensitive as they have in the past and there had been little impact on tourism in the city since the attack on Charlie Hebdo’s office last week and subsequent incidents.
Its Hoteliers European Marketplace is also still seeing bookings ahead of last year with no fall-out.
“European tourism has suffered from outrages in the past, but the remarkable thing is that we have heard of no significant cancellations by groups or individuals travelling. Analyses of the online booking trends show no divergence from before the events,” said ETOA’s Tom Jenkins.
“Long-haul markets used to be particularly sensitive. A perception of danger in one city in Europe would blight the whole continent. But this has not happened. This may be due to the localised nature of the atrocities or it may be because world leaders responded by going to Paris to display solidarity. Having Angela Merkel and David Cameron go for a walk with two million others sets a wonderful example.”
He said the ‘heartening resilience’ was good news for all of Europe.
