Wyndham Worldwide Corporation has sold Canvas Holidays to French camping holiday firm Vacalians Group.
Dunfermline- based Canvas Holidays was founded 50 years ago and is a leading tour operator in the campaign sector offering holidays in 90 destinations across Europe.
In 2014 it saw revenues of around EUR24 million and alongside its range also has a flexible booking system and luxury specialist arm.
Under its new owners France-based Vacalians Group will offer more than 300 destinations, more than 23,500 pitches and 17,500 mobile home units. The group’s international business makes up a quarter of its business but this will expand with the Canvas acquisition particularly in the UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.
“We are delighted to welcome Canvas Holidays on board within our group. This operation illustrates the industry’s consolidation and the role that Vacalians Group aims to play in this process,” said Olivier Ganivenq, chairman of Vacalians. “The strong reputation of the Canvas Holidays brand, its extensive distribution networks, its complementary offer and the synergies between our activities represent major assets as we look to further strengthen our international development, while consolidating our positions on a market that is becoming increasingly structured.”
Vacalians is owned by 21 Partners group and the Promeo group, employing 600 people. Its revenues reached nearly EUR110 million in 2013 and recently launched the Tohapi brand offering campsite holidays.
