To celebrate the start of the Cricket World Cup in Australia and Zealand, Air India is getting into the swing of things by introducing a new range of cricket-themed in-flight meals.
Fancy sampling Raina’s Cheesy Pull Shot? Or how about Sachin’s Sweet Drive, Dhoni’s Swashbuckling Super Sixer or Captain Smith’s Catch of the Season? All of these dishes are on the menu aboard some of Air India’s flights during the World Cup.
The new menu has been designed by the Oberoi Flight Services and includes lunch, dinner and dessert options. In terms of beverages, a range of Indian smoothies will be introduced for the first time, while several Indian wines have also been selected.
The dishes were presented to Air India’s chairman & managing director, Rohit Nandan, during a tasting session at TajSATS flight Kitchen in Delhi. Renowned Indian food writer, Vir Sanghvi, also attended the event.
“Air India’s in-flight food is very popular on domestic and international routes [and we are now] taking this popularity to the next level,” the airline said in a statement.
“Air India has planned a month-long special gastronomical treat for its cricket loving passengers during the World Cup in Australia. The party on board begins on 14 February, the opening day of the World Cup, and will be on till 29 March 2015.”
Air India currently flies its Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft to the Australian cities of Sydney and Melbourne, and the new cricket menus will be available on these flights.
As well as the in-flight food, passengers will be offered “cricket-specific nightwear” in business class.
