The first Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) World Games was held in Abu Dhabi under the patronage of HH Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak al Nahyan.

The event is a first-of-its-kind event celebrating the traditional Irish sports of Gaelic football, hurling, camogie and rounders. The two-day event showcased best of Ireland’s national sports. The teams travelled from Argentina, Asia, Australasia, Canada, New York, North America, Europe, South Africa and from around the Middle East to compete.

The Middle East Nationals Squad competed in the international competition with players from Kuwait, Sudan, Bahrain, Oman, Egypt and others. The games were hosted at Zayed Sports City. The event was preceded by a World Business Forum which ran in conjunction with the Department of Foreign Affairs, Enterprise Ireland, Invest Northern Ireland, various Irish Embassies and business networks in the GCC.
