Air India has operated a series of all-female crewed flights to mark International Women’s Day.

On its international network, the national carrier operated all-female flights on the DelhiMelbourne and MumbaiMuscat routes, while similar services were operated on the domestic Mumbai-Delhi and Delhi-Jodhpur-Mumbai sectors.

This has now become an annual activity for Air India, and two of the cockpit crew flying the Delhi-Melbourne route on Monday were also part of the first-ever all-female crew flight that served the Calcutta-Silchar route 30 years ago.

As well as having a female flight crew, most of the technical services for the flights were handled by female engineers and technicians.

And to make the occasion even more special, Indian cricket star Harbhajan Singh and Indian national Hockey coach, Harinder Singh, were present at the Delhi Airport to greet passengers on the flights.

Air India now has 4,500 female employees, including pilots, cabin crew, engineers, technicians, doctors and executives, accounting for almost 20% of its total workforce.
