Emirates staff charged with theft in Nigeria have case adjourned

The Nigerian Federal Government charging five Emirates employees in relation to the theft of US $1.63 million, has adjourned the case at the Federal High Court in Lagos.
Daily, The Leadership, reported that the five Emirates employees alongside three others, are standing trial on eleven counts of stealing, fraud, obtaining money under false pretence, wilfully destroying evidence and failure to report an international transfer of fund.
It is alleged that the defendants stole four bags containing a total of $1.63 million at Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos in 2007. Prince Chu Ikem Orji, owner of the bags, claims they were stolen on the promise of keeping them intact for onward delivery.
However, rather than forwarding the bags, it is claimed the luggage was taken and evidence was destroyed by removing the baggage details from the logging system.
The case was adjourned as one of the accused was ill ad will reconvene on 2 April.
