An airline catering company has unveiled a new solution that will allow passengers to pre-order their in-flight meals.

Gategroup, through its technology arm eGate Solutions, used the recent World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo in Germany to announce the launch of POPS, an automated pre-ordering tool.

Optimised for all mobile devices, POPS integrates with an airline’s existing flight system and enables passengers to pre-order and, if necessary, pay for, their in-flight meals. This is intended to increase the level of personalised service an airline is able to offer its passengers, and reduce waste.

“In our increasingly connected world, consumers expect more personalisation and the ability to customise their experiences, whether on the ground or in the air,” said Simon de Montfort Walker, president & managing director of eGate Solutions.

“The benefits of pre-order and pre-selection are clear, and many of our customers are thinking about how to bring these benefits into their operations. With POPS, eGate takes the expense and complexity out of pre-order and pre-selection making it a viable option for airlines of all types and sizes.”

eGate says the POPS solution can be integrated into a range of areas, including an airline’s website or service kiosks, in line with IATA’s New Distribution Capability (NDC).

“POPS is another great step for eGate which enables airlines to maximise passenger amenities, minimise waste, reduce fuel burn and deliver modernised onboard services, sales and delivery,” said Xavier Rossinyol, gategroup’s CEO.
